Instructions to exercise your COPPA rights
Your school should be informing you names of the online programs and testing services, and websites your child is participating in at school, along with their privacy policies and terms of service.
- If your school has not yet provided you this information, you should submit the COPPA Disclosure Request Form to your school’s principal and/or child’s teacher.
- Once the disclosure form is returned with this information, you should submit the COPPA Opt-Out Form to each online vendor or service provider (and cc: your school) using the contact information provided by your child’s teacher or school;
- Or you can submit the COPPA Opt-Out Form to your school/district directing them to contact the vendors or service providers on your behalf. (Note: COPPA does not specify that your school/district must provide you assistance when contacting vendors or service providers; your request may be denied in which case you can use the form in #2 to contact the vendors or service providers directly.)
(Note: Please remember to keep all your records in case you need to file a complaint.)
